J. D. Michaelis on Kennicott’s Work

This is from J.D. Michaelis’s review of Benjamin Kennicott’s second dissertation:

Contrary to the custom of the English, he even informed himself on the writings of the Germans. And what is more astounding, he even quotes German works fairly often.

Lord, help us lowly English speakers.

This quote is taken from Barthélemy’s Studies in the Text of the Old Testament (pg. 40), a must read. But if any of you around Louisville recall this book from the library at SBTS, I will be very angry.
